Multitasking is bad for you.

Hands up if you are a dude and can do like two things at once. Say, hug a friend, probably a lady, while speaking on the phone and wave at a friend at the same time without intimidating any of the parties. Here receive a handshake, hug and congratulatory massage from me if you can do all that.
I am actually amazed if you can do two things at the same time and you are a guy of my type. Although it is a typical stereotype but you see, biologically and maybe to some extent, biblically, it is true that most men cannot multitask.
I suppose the men here may be raising their hand in protest but look at this, I am not writing this piece as a diss to you. I came across a certain journal that says that the only place a man can multitask is when with the computer where he can hold a chat on face book, send mail to a friend and still get a glimpse to YouTube for fun. But wait, if in this process his phone rung, it would go unanswered if it was on vibration or on low tone. And if it was on loud ring, then it will also have to ring for a while before he notices.
Why am I saying all these then? I suppose there is some thing we were not taught in school that men have short term memories compared to the ladies. Take this for instance,  a lady in the shopping mall can pick stuff off the shelves, compare prices, check on other alternatives, read through the ingredients list, drag the trolley while maybe speaking on the phone, say an apology to a fellow customer for having dropped the car keys, maybe watch on the kid she went shopping with.
Well, while I am all smiles for my ability to do two things, there is a worry due to my short term memory along other things. I say this because, maybe you have herd of Isaac Newton, who instead of boiling the edible egg, mistook it for his treasured watch as a result of doing two things at once. You now see some of the grave mistakes of multitasking?
Come to this local case here, I left school last week earlier intending to go do my laundry. On getting to the house, there was an interesting programme on television. So I quickly changed, fetched water and soaked the clothes so soften the fabric before washing.
I stuffed all the damn clothes into the water and proceeded to the preparation of tea then watching the programme on television. Well as a norm, I have to call friends I the evenings or maybe receive calls all the same. But for today, I discover that my phone wasn’t ringing. That’s when it dawned on me that I had somehow managed to soak my precious “mulika mwizi” in the trouser that I soaked and was not pleased about it after all!
Additionally, on you r side, although you may hold the belief that you are Tom of all trades, I assure you, there is very little you achieve in terms of perfection and believe you me, there is nothing presentable as a result of multitasking. It is said that there will be an output but the output is of low value.
That is why I urge to concentrate on a given task at a time. Although you may feel something amiss while doing one thing, it is for the benefit of you and quality output.
So at time, when you get me in the computer lab, logged into YouTube, face book, hotmail, yahoo mail and Google don’t look at it like  I m nuts, I’m just exercising my scientific ability to multitask because that is the only place I can. Well I pity myself for my disability but all men, okay majority, will trust that I have said the truth. If not, try making a change as you watch this space. Adios.
