Just the other day, there was a match between Gor and Ulinzi and once again the ancient hooliganism associated with Gor was experienced. When shall Gor fans learn to accept defeat?
Where as the local media is trying its best to improve the taste for the Kenyan league, the fans are so much into the old regime.
While we appreciate the efforts being injected by the sports station Radio Jambo in ensuring the games get a wide listen ship, the result was the other way with people opting to stay away from the stadium.
The league management has increased security for the fans in the stadiums but apparently the same fans are the insecurity we are avoiding. Question is who really should be secured.
Gor Mahia one of the big teams in the league and enjoying the largest fan base in the same is being let down by the fans. Despite the team displaying its best in the field, the fans are their major set back although they seem to be portraying their loyalty to thee team. Should the fans be restrained from attending future matches, then the team will run low due to decrease in the revenue collection through tickets.
Following the mid week clash with Ulinzi, I am certain the football body is most likely to stamp a ban on the fans therefore dwindling the club income. It is sad that though the media is trying to draw fans back to the stadia, there are those still seem a set back to the club development and the league growth as a whole.
I would like to urge Gor fans to take it as their duty to grow the clubs income hence the ability to buy better players during the transfer windows maybe to enable them win more trophies.
On the other hand, it is their duty to protect the players in the pitch and see their security since they are their ‘property’ and nobody would like to damage his own property. This action was an uncouth way of acting given that they passed their worth to the public.
Being an era of civilization I suppose there must have been a better way of presenting their grievances to the management or to the referee.
In my opinion, I suppose Gor fans have a chair man, through who they should have presented their grievances instead of causing the havoc they did, making pedestrians suffer from thing they did not expect.
The premier league managing is also to be congratulated for the tight security provides to the players and the Ulinzi fans. Unlike in the passed, this time there was an immediate reaction from the police who after learning on the situating were there to qualm the situation.
We all the same thank the local media and radio Jambo in particular for their effort in helping built the local league and improving its awareness in the country. The sad mood in the stadium could really be felt in the radio as the commentator’s expressed their disappointment for an outcome that did not expect.
Sportsmanship should be embraced and accept defeat because their should always be a looser in any match thus, they, For fans should learn to accept defeat.
